The 14″x7″ Dragon Snare from the Sounds Like Art series is one of the most popular sizes we craft. The thick shell provides projection, a crisp sound and thick sounding rim shots. The depth gives the drum a lot of body, with more tone than most people expected from such a drum. This dragon features a distressed black paint job, with layers of silver to accent the carvings and black plated hardware. Check it out:

14″x5″ Sounds Like Art Dragon in Steel Blue

The 14″x5″ Dragon Snare is a fresh new size for 2011. This is the first one to leave the shop featuring 2.3mm hoops and the sound was spot-on, nice and crisp with beefy rim shots. The finish is a steel-blue stain with high gloss lacquer that really pulls out the detail of the carving and contrasts well with the black hardware. Check it out:

Todays post is another great example of the range of custom finishing techniques available on the Sounds Like Art line of carved drums. 13″x6.5″ Dragon Snare Prototype, Cold Rolled Steel Hoops

This 13″x6.5″ Dragon Snare prototype features 4mm thick cold-rolled steel hoops that go perfectly with the thick stave-construction shell. These hoops have a thick and solid rim-shot similar to die casts hoops, but without the dryness that often accompanies die cast hoops. The detail of the 360 degree carved shell is accented by the detail of the machined hoop clips, for an overall package that screams “I’m ready to rock your ears off”. The finish is Scorched Maple with chrome hardware and a black Trick GS007 strainer. Very happy with the way this one turned out, check it:

Dragon Snare with a touch of gold

Recently displayed at the 2011 Chicago Drum Show, this beautiful Sounds Like Art Dragon Snare turned a lot of heads. This model features a 14″x7″ maple shell finished in dark emerald green stain topped with a light brushing of gold. The protective clear coat is a semi-gloss satin lacquer, and black plated hardware rounds out this drum so it looks just as good as it sounds. The gold features a light metallic shimmer that accents the depth and detail of the wood carving, check it out:

Sounds Like Art Dragon Snare, 13″x6.5″ with matching Wood Hoops

There are several new Sounds Like Art snares in the works and being prototyped; Todays post features the first 13″x6.5″ Dragon Snare to roll out of the shop. Featuring the popular Scorched Maple satin-lacquer finish, black hardware, Trick GS007, and wood hoops in a matching Scorched Maple finish, this drum has a seriously beefy sound for a 13″. The shell is over 3/4″ thick at the bearing edges and combined with the wood hoops the rim shots are incredibly solid and thick sounding. Couldn’t have asked for more out of the first 13″, check it out:

Here’s a sweet little 14″x7″ dragon snare that was recently custom ordered with die cast hoops. The thick 1″ stave-style shell combined with the stiffer hoops really give this drum a nice crisp tone. Here’s a few photos, and a Zoom Q3 sound clip of it. Great sounding snare, check it out:

Today’s drum is a 14″x7″ Sounds Like Art Dragon Snare that recently made it’s way to Australia. The Sounds Like Art snares feature stave-construction shells out of various woods, and detailed 3D carvings that set them apart from anything else. This snare features a maple shell nearly 1″ thick, for a tight sound with lots of projection and cut. The 7″ depth makes sure the drum still has a lot of body and a thick sound to it, so it’s not just the cut/attack you hear. Black chrome hardware, a black Trick strainer, and custom ordered Evans heads round out this package for an awesome look, check it out:
