Phattie setup with silver leaf inlays over a deep purple burst…

by Dennis
October 31st, 2011

October has featured a number of beautiful kits, and I’m happy to send out the month on a very high note!  This unique set of Phattie Drums features a deep purple stain with a Kandy black burst topped in a high gloss lacquer.  Under the beautiful clear coat is a 1/4″ silver leaf inlay that compliments the chrome hardware perfectly.  The sizes include 10″x8″, 12″x9″, and 14″x10″ rack toms, 16″x14″ floor tom, 22″x18″ bass and a matching 14″x6.5″ snare.  Custom touches include chrome Pearl Optimounts, 1/4″ silver leaf inlay, diecast hoops on the snare and tear-drop style lugs all around.  Check it out:

A little High Gloss Maple to start your week…

by Dennis
August 30th, 2010

Last week I refinished an older Phattie kit into a high gloss natural maple finish using 100% water-based finishing products.  Water based products have come a long way in the last several years, and the current stuff used on all Stauffer Percussion products provides the same level of performance you get from traditional solvent-based finishes, but without the harmful fumes and toxic clean-up.  Spray guns and other equipment can be cleaned out using tap water, no need for lacquer thinner or acetone in the shop.  This kit featured a 10″ rack tom, 14″ floor, 22″ bass, and 13″ snare.  Here’s a couple detail shots of the finish quality, I’m quite pleased with how the new water based system is working out:

August already? 2010 is flying by…

by Dennis
August 2nd, 2010

This month there are quite a few special projects that need finished up. Everything from abalone inlays to custom wraps that have been recreated from the 1940′s. Lots of high gloss paint jobs, wooden inlays, custom cocktail kits, etc, all which will be posted up on the blog when wrapped up. For now, however, I’m going to take a little break from blogging and concentrate on all the building that needs done! Daily updates and new drum photos will resume in a week, check back soon!

Deluxe Cocktail Kit in a High Gloss Tobacco Burst

by Dennis
June 24th, 2010

This Deluxe Cocktail Kit features a beautiful high-gloss Tobacco Burst lacquer that looks outstanding in person.  The snare and tom were airbrushed with a one-way fade that lines up with the top half of the burst on the main drum, looks stellar when setup.  The photos tell the story on this one, check it out:

Deep blue meets bleached quilted maple…

by Dennis
February 16th, 2010

This is what happens when you bleach veneer, soak it in blue, and then smother it in high gloss lacquer until it looks a mile deep.  Specs are : 14″x6″, die-cast hoops, quilted maple veneer, solid brass tube lugs, and one of the nicest paint jobs around.  Dig it:
