This Friday Flashback dates from early 2003…geeze time flies! This kit included 8″, 10″, 12″, 14″, and 16″ hanging toms and a 22″ bass, all finished in a bright orange satin lacquer with black hardware. This was also one of the first kits that rocked our new Phattie logo in the bubble-badge that we used until switching to the chrome-plated badges. The matching orange Phattie logo on the bass was a nice touch, check it out:
In the summer of 2003 G. Love and Special Sauce toured with 311 for a couple of months. Our friend and groove-master Jeffrey Houseman Clemens was rocking his first set of Phattie Drums in Green Sparkle. This kit featured a 12″x8″ rack tom, 16″x16″ floor, 24″x14″ bass, and two snares in 14″ and 10″ diameters. The 14″ was playing backup to the amazing ’50′s Ludwig you’ll see in the photo, and the 10″ was tucked to the left as a nice accent snare. This kit dates from around early 2001, and part of it was a show piece at the Nashville Vintage & Custom Show in our booth that year. I honestly don’t remember all the specifications, as it’s been a while, but to the best of my knowledge the toms were 8″x7″, 8″x8″, 10″x8″, 10″x9″, 12″x9″, 12″x10″, 14″x12″, 14″x12″, 16″x14″, one 13″ and one 14″ snare, and two 22″ bass drums. The finish was a custom Sea Foam Fade we mixed up, with all brass hardware. Circa 2001, here’s today’s Friday Flashback:
