This Friday Flashback is a Phattie maple kit featuring a deep red/modern mahogany type satin stain with Gunmetal Gray powder coated hardware, similar to the Gretsch Broadkaster hardware finish. The sizes included 8″, 10″, 12″, 14″, and 16″ suspended toms, a 14″x4″ snare, and a 20″ bass and woofer combo. This combination of sizes and woofer allowed for many setup possibilities, from the full rock kit to a little coffee-house style portable setup, check it out:
Today’s Friday Flashback is from early 2003, best I can recall. Phattie kit in Blue Glass Glitter with Adonis lugs, and white powder coating all around. The sizes were (or were close to) 10″x7″, 12″x8″, 14″x12″, 16″x14″ and a thumping 20″x20″ bass. The blue & white combo is sharp looking, and you could never go wrong with Adonis lugs, check it out:
This monster rock kit featured a 13″ rack tom, 18″ floor tom, and 28″ bass drum. The special part about this kit is it was build using NOS Slingerland shells sold off during a move or liquidation of some of the Slingerland inventory and tooling. It’s been about six years, so I don’t recall the exact details, but the shells were NOS Slingerlands and made for a great sounding kit. The black stripes and stars over the chrome wrap made this kit visually striking, a great compliment to the sound and perfect for some pounding rock. Check it out:
This Friday Flashback kit goes way back to late 2003, and is a set of Phattie Classic Series that featured a smooth deep blue-to-black burst. The sizes were 8″x7″, 10″x8″, 12″x9″, and 14″x14″, with a beefy 24″x18″ bass. All with chrome tear-drop lugs and Pearl BT3 style suspension mounts. Great looking kit…if it happens to be your kit now, send in some action photos!
This set of Phattie Drums dates from around early 2004. Featuring a beautiful Red Onyx finish over classic sizes, Slingerland lugs and a DW Rail Mount really complete the vintage vibe. The toms are 12″x8″, 14″x14″, and 16″x16″, with a matching 20″x14″ bass and 14″x6.5″ snare. It’s kits like this that eventually grew into the Black Label concept that we now offer. Check it out:
