A hint of green for St. Patrick’s Day

by Dennis
March 17th, 2011

Posted up just for St. Patrick’s Day, this sweet little Emerald Fade turned out great!  The core of this build is a 20-ply 13″x6″ shell with plenty of pop, and a nice thick sound complimented by the addition of yamaha-style wood hoops, custom painted to match the fade with satin lacquer clear coats.  Solid brass tube lugs, a Trick GS007 strainer, Puresound 20-strand wires and Evans heads round out this build for a sharp little snare.  Check it out:

80% Copper + 20% Zinc + 14″x5″ = One great little snare

by Dennis
June 10th, 2010

This is a one-off custom snare recently wrapped up for Chris Thompson with the Eli Young Band.  He’s been touring with a Phattie 14″x6.5″ Black Brass snare for the last year, and was ready for something with a little more bite to it.  This drum fit the bill perfectly!  The shell is 14″x5″ and 1/16″ thick with rounded bearing edges.  It’s tricked out with a Dunnett R2 Throw-off that features a quick release feature for quick head changes without having to take off the snare wires.  Ten solid-brass tube lugs and the heavy die-cast hoops give this drum a bite that the deeper and thinner 14″x6.5″ just didn’t have.  Along with the great sound it turned out to be quite the head turner, check it out:

Eli Young Band - Country Throwdown Tour

The Eli Young Band is currently pounding the pavement on the Country Throwdown Tour, hitting cities all over the U.S. with a ton of incredibly talented artists.  Click the image above for a list of dates and get yourself there if you’re a fan of rockin’ country music!  Last week I had the opportunity to catch a show and deliver a new snare to Chris Thompson, drummer for the Eli Young Band.  The snare is 14″x6.5″ clear acrylic with frosted EYB and Phattie logos, and a custom lighting system with remote control.  This snare turns heads unlike anything else, watch the video below to get a full sampling of the different colors/fades/flashes/etc. that it is capable of.  Very cool stuff, look for several full kits later this summer with similar systems we are currently engineering (or click here to check out one we recently did featuring low-profile LED Black Lights!) Dig it:

12″x7″ Snare, Red over Black Sparkle Phattie…

by Dennis
March 8th, 2010

This sweet little firecracker features a 12″x7″ 10-Ply maple shell with red powder coated hardware over black sparkle.  The lugs are tear-drop style, and compliment the black SX-9 strainer and black finished snare wires.  Great little auxiliary snare with a tight pop, check it out:

30-Ply Hybrid Chamber Snare with Copper Vein Powder Coating

by Dennis
January 8th, 2010

One of our more unique snares, this is a 14″x8″ 10-Ply Hybrid Chamber snare.  The bearing edges top and bottom are a full 30-plies thick with 45-degree bearing edges.  The inner shell is a full 10-plies thick, and the outer shell is 1/4″ acrylic with a 1/4″ chamber between it and the inner shell, protecting the artwork.  The maple sections are done in a satin black lacquer, while the hardware features Copper Vein powder coating over tube lugs and 2.3mm hoops, with a Trick strainer to round things out.  The badge is our “Custom Shop” badge, and it is an available option when ordering a custom set of Phattie Drums, instead of the regular oval Phattie badge.  This snare sounds just as good as it looks, and it looks amazing.  Enjoy:
