Friday Flashback! Rootbeer Sparkle Lacquer

by Dennis
July 23rd, 2010

This Friday Flashback features a beautiful rock setup in a Rootbeer Sparkle Lacquer finish.  Dating from sometime in early 2006, this kit features a 13″x9″, 16″x16″, 18″x16″, 26″x18″ and a matching 14″x8″ snare.  The finish is an automotive lacquer featuring House of Kolor Kandy over a base made from heavy silver flakes, and is absolutely stunning under the lights.  Our unique PhatRat lug with polished brass inserts compliments the finish perfectly, check it out:

Friday Flashback! Racing stripes visit the Bristol Motor Speedway…

by Dennis
June 25th, 2010

This Friday we’re looking back to 2006, when we built some sweet kits for use in the ’07 catalog.  This kit features a Viper Silver base coat with Orange Kandy stripes over a sparkle base, and was photographed on the drag strip at Bristol Motor Speedway.  The rack tom was 13″x9″, floor toms of 16″x14″ and 18″x16″, with a beefy 24″x20″ bass and matching 14″x8″ snare.  A huge rock’n'roll setup with a sweet paint job, one of my favorite kits from the last 10+ years:

Deluxe Cocktail Kit in a High Gloss Tobacco Burst

by Dennis
June 24th, 2010

This Deluxe Cocktail Kit features a beautiful high-gloss Tobacco Burst lacquer that looks outstanding in person.  The snare and tom were airbrushed with a one-way fade that lines up with the top half of the burst on the main drum, looks stellar when setup.  The photos tell the story on this one, check it out:

A new lease on life for a rarely used floor tom…

by Dennis
May 26th, 2010

Ever end up with a kit where one drum just doesn’t fit like you imagined it?  This 18″ Phattie floor tom rarely left it’s case due to the great sounding 16″ floor tom also on the kit.  With the artist playing some lighter gigs and coffee-house style stuff, a new lease on life was given to this 18″ with a conversion to taller bass-drum lugs, a DW Rail Mount, Dunnett gull-wing spurs, Gibraltar Natural-Maple Lacquered hoops, and higher quality mounting brackets.  The result is a hip little 18″ bass with a great tone, and visually a great match for the rest of the kit since there was no color-matching or refinishing involved.  Check it out:

Friday Flashback! A monster Sea Foam Fade…

by Dennis
April 9th, 2010

This kit dates from around early 2001, and part of it was a show piece at the Nashville Vintage & Custom Show in our booth that year.  I honestly don’t remember all the specifications, as it’s been a while, but to the best of my knowledge the toms were 8″x7″, 8″x8″, 10″x8″, 10″x9″, 12″x9″, 12″x10″, 14″x12″, 14″x12″, 16″x14″, one 13″ and one 14″ snare, and two 22″ bass drums.  The finish was a custom Sea Foam Fade we mixed up, with all brass hardware.  Circa 2001, here’s today’s Friday Flashback:
