The hue of this Vintage Gold Glass Glitter shows great with the classic styling of the Black Label series. The sizes on this big rock kit include a 14″x10″ rack tom, 16″x16″ floor tom, and 24″x18″ bass drum. Classic touches include the inlaid black-lacquer bass hoops, Radio King style lugs and rail mount. Modern touches include the deeper bass drum, Gauger Alloy RIMS mount and Pearl-style fold out spurs. The result is custom kit that is a perfect blend of new and old, check it out:

2011 has been a great year filled with many awesome experiences! We’ve been able to work with a ton of great drummers with great ideas, and turn those ideas into amazing kits. The best part is watching these guys exercise their talent on a set of drums we built, and see the enjoyment they get out of a finely crafted instrument. Here are a couple of video highlights from the year, from two of my favorite artists:

The Eli Young Band has had an amazing year, with Chris Thompson driving the beat from his Phatties. Their hit Crazy Girl made it to #1! Here’s the official video, featuring a beautiful set of Phattie Drums in pre-aged pearl with inlaid wood hoops:

Later in the year the Eli Young Band had the opportunity to play Letterman. At this point Chris was playing his new baby-blue Phatties, and Letterman gives the drums a little shout-out at the end of the performance, check it out:

This year almost marked a banner year for the Avett Brothers. Here’s a clip of them playing the Grammys in a very cool performance that included Mumford & Sons and Bob Dylan. Drummer Jacob Edwards was using his Black Label 14″x6.5″ snare:

Most recently the Avett Brothers played Laundry Room on the CMT Artist of the Year Awards. Jacob rocked his full Black Label outfit with the vintage style mahogany finish and pre-aged wood hoops. Check it out:

Black Label 14″x7″ Workhorse with Cold Rolled hoops

This 14″x7 Black Label snare drum features 4mm thick cold rolled steel hoops for a great wide-open sound. Thicker than traditional single-flanged hoops, these 4mm steel hoops provide a great wide-open tone but have thick rim shots similar to a diecast hoop. Combined with vintage-style claws over a perfect brown satin lacquer, this is one classic looking beauty. Check it out:

Black Label set with a Birds Eye Maple veneer and Paua Abalone inlay

Today’s kit combines a beautiful birds eye maple veneer, deep golden amber stain, and a 1/2″ Paua Abalone inlay all buried under a high gloss lacquer. The sizes include 10″x7″ and 12″x7″ rack toms, a 14″x12″ floor tom, and 20″X14″ bass drum. Custom touches include DW brackets, a double tom holder mounted on the bass drum, and die cast hoops. This one turned out to be quite a head turner, check it out:

An 8-lug setup and vintage style wood hoops give this Black Label custom snare a ton of body and a nice old school sound. The finish is Perfect Brown satin lacquer and features True Gold Glass Glitter inlays on the vintage-style wood hoops. At the core is a 14″x6.5″ 8-ply maple shell fitted with a Trick GS007 strainer and Puresound snare wires. Another perfect blend of modern touches and classic style, check it out:

Black Label jazz kit in light Birds Eye with Abalone inlays

This Black Label set recently came back through the shop on it’s way to a new owner. The finish was freshened up and the beautiful results can be seen below. At the core are the 100% maple 8-ply shells in a 12″x8″, 14″x14″, and 20″x16″. A veneer of light Birds Eye Maple and a 1/4″ strip of Abalone are protected beneath many layers of a perfect satin lacquer for a stunning, yet subtle finish. Radio King style hardware and heavy duty spurs complete the package, for a “retro-mod” style kit. The best of what’s old combined with the best of what’s new, in a very classy package. Check it out:

Black Label Pre-Aged Pearl Snare

Today’s sweet snare drum features the best of what’s old and the best of what’s new in true Black Label fashion. This 13″x7″ maple snare is wrapped in pre-aged pearl with matching inlay installed in the “perfect-brown” satin lacquer hoops. Full length tube lugs and classic hoop claws contribute to the vintage look while a Trick GS007 brings a modern level of functionality to the party. Check it out:

New Black Label kit for Sioux Sioux Studios

Pretty finishes and sharp photos don’t mean a thing without great sound. I’m happy to share the news that another studio, Sioux Sioux Studios out of Charlotte, is now rockin’ this beautiful set of Black Labels as their house kit. (Other North Carolina studios include Echo and Sound Temple) This setup features a 12″x8″ rack tom with suspension mount, 14″x14″ and 16″x16″ floor toms, and a thumping 22″x16″ bass drum. The finish is a beautiful Burnt Sienna satin lacquer with a light airbrushed fade. The bass hoops feature a pre-aged maple stain and satin glass glitter inlays. The result is a beautiful setup that compliments the vibe of the studio in both looks and sound. Check it out:

2011 Chicago Drum Show recap!

The last few weeks has been busy with pre-show prep work, packing, traveling, displaying, and everything else that goes along with attending the Chicago Drum Show. Happy to report that every bit of effort was well worth it! We split a large booth with Andy from Drummaker.com and had a beautiful display going on. The drums were loved, met a lot of great people, got to catch up with a lot of old friends, and in general had a great time and saw a lot of beautiful drums.
