80% Copper + 20% Zinc + 14″x5″ = One great little snare

This is a one-off custom snare recently wrapped up for Chris Thompson with the Eli Young Band.  He’s been touring with a Phattie 14″x6.5″ Black Brass snare for the last year, and was ready for something with a little more bite to it.  This drum fit the bill perfectly!  The shell is 14″x5″ and 1/16″ thick with rounded bearing edges.  It’s tricked out with a Dunnett R2 Throw-off that features a quick release feature for quick head changes without having to take off the snare wires.  Ten solid-brass tube lugs and the heavy die-cast hoops give this drum a bite that the deeper and thinner 14″x6.5″ just didn’t have.  Along with the great sound it turned out to be quite the head turner, check it out:

Phattie Badge gets a little change up…

The Phattie badge recently got a new background of smooth black enamel instead of the brushed stainless.  The result is a badge that pops a little more and pays homage to the classic black & silver badges on the vintage drums we love and are inspired by.  Check it out:

Gary Jackson of The Movement, talks about his Black Label kit…

Gary has been rockin’ his Black Label drums on tour for about six months now.  Here he lays down some nice beats at the Orange Peel for us.  Recorded on a Zoom Q3 with no effects or post-processing, they sound great:
