This sweet 14″x7″ 10-Ply maple Phattie features one of the coolest sparkle wraps around. The “Modern Sparkle” style wrap features small metallic flakes that replicate the look of an automotive paint job. A charcoal base color with silver and blue pinstripes compliments the black hardware nicely. Today I’m keeping it old school with this special kit that has some awesome vintage details on it. This is the first kit to wear the new Steam Bent 1-Ply Shell round badge, and the first drums ever to feature the rare Ludwig Top Hat & Cane pattern accurately reproduced on Pre-Aged Marine Pearl. The results are nothing short of amazing, as we combined the best hardware and components the past has to offer with the best shells and craftsmanship available in the present. A few of the vintage highlights include the Ludwig Top Hat & Cane custom reproduced wrap, Rogers Swiv-o-Matic Tom & Cymbal Mounts, Slingerland Radio King style lugs, Stick Saver hoops, and a matching canister throne. A few of the modern highlights include steam bent 1-ply maple shells, Dunnett R4 strainers and Puresound wires on both snares, modern style Gull-Wing spurs, clam shell leg brackets and clam shell bass drum claws that match the classic Radio King profile. The sizes include a 13″x10″ rack tom, two 16″x16″ floor toms (Buddy Rich style), a 24″x16″ bass drum, a 14″x6.5″ snare with radio king lugs, and a 14″x5″ snare with tube lugs and solid-brass single flanged hoops, and a matching canister throne. Robert George recently opened up a beautiful new studio here in Asheville. Sound Temple was designed as a “sacred recording space” that is also a world class recording studio designed by renowned studio designer Wes LaChot. The new Phattie house-kit for the studio features 10″x8″ and 12″x9″ rack toms, 14″x12″ and 16″x14″ floor toms, 22″x16″ and 18″x14″ bass drums, and a 14″x7″ snare. The drums are all maple and feature an ebony & cherry inlay around each shell that compliments the black-chrome hardware. Custom glass glitter wraps are quickly becoming a popular option here, and it’s easy to see why. This example is a Phattie 14″x7″ Workhorse-style snare with our silver and black “Take this life, make it yours” custom designed wrap. Hardware includes ten black-chrome full length tube lugs, 2.3mm hoops, Trick GS007 strainer, phosphor bronze snare wires and Evans heads. Here’s a sweet little 14″x7″ dragon snare that was recently custom ordered with die cast hoops. The thick 1″ stave-style shell combined with the stiffer hoops really give this drum a nice crisp tone. Here’s a few photos, and a Zoom Q3 sound clip of it. Great sounding snare, check it out:
