Sharp looking Purple Hybrid Phatties….

This sharp looking set turned out great, a perfect blend of modern touches that keeps an overall sharp look. The contrast between the purple satin lacquer, the chrome, and the clear acrylic turned out even nicer than I anticipated. The sizes include a 12″x8″ rack tom, 14″x12″ and 16″x14″ floor toms, and a thumping 22″x20″ bass. Check it out:

A little High Gloss Maple to start your week…

Last week I refinished an older Phattie kit into a high gloss natural maple finish using 100% water-based finishing products. Water based products have come a long way in the last several years, and the current stuff used on all Stauffer Percussion products provides the same level of performance you get from traditional solvent-based finishes, but without the harmful fumes and toxic clean-up. Spray guns and other equipment can be cleaned out using tap water, no need for lacquer thinner or acetone in the shop. This kit featured a 10″ rack tom, 14″ floor, 22″ bass, and 13″ snare. Here’s a couple detail shots of the finish quality, I’m quite pleased with how the new water based system is working out:

Aged Marine Pearl Phatties…

This Pre-Aged Marine Pearl kit features a 10″x8″ rack tom, 14″x12″ floor tom, and a 22″x20″ bass drum. Classic Phattie action with the solid brass machined tube lugs, dual 45 degree edges, custom-stained bass drum hoop, and that killer Phattie sound. Friday Flashback, a funky Orange Satin Lacquer set of Phatties…

This Friday Flashback dates from early 2003…geeze time flies! This kit included 8″, 10″, 12″, 14″, and 16″ hanging toms and a 22″ bass, all finished in a bright orange satin lacquer with black hardware. This was also one of the first kits that rocked our new Phattie logo in the bubble-badge that we used until switching to the chrome-plated badges. The matching orange Phattie logo on the bass was a nice touch, check it out:

Friday Flashback! First kit for the Eli Young Band…

This week we had the opportunity to supply some cool prototypes to Chris Thompson of the Eli Young Band. He’s got some cool new snares to try out on the road…but more on those next week! Today’s Friday Flashback is the first kit we built for the Eli Young Band sometime in early 2006. This kit featured a 12″ rack tom, 14″ and 16″ hanging floor toms, and a deep 22″ bass. The finish is a red glass glitter with silver sparkle stars, and custom silver metallic/sparkle powder coating that shimmered under the lights. This was the first of many cool kits we’ve built for them so far, check it out:

Many drummers dream of having a single kit that can be configured for any gig. Occasionally a drummer makes that dream come true! This beautiful Perfect Brown Satin kit includes wood hoop toms in 8″x8″, 10″x8″, 12″x9″, 14″x14″, 16″x16″, and 18″x16″ sizes. Steel hooped toms in 12″x9″, 16″x16″, and 18″x16″ sizes. Bass drums include two 24″x22″, a 22″x20″, a 22″x10″ woofer, and a conversion kit for the 18″ wood hooped tom to be used as a bass. Snares included a 14″x4″ 10-ply maple, 14″x6″ 15-ply maple, and a 14″x8″ 10-ply maple. This variety of sizes allows for dozens of unique configurations that cover any gig. This Phattie Hybrid kit features Navy Blue acrylic center sections against Blue Glass Glitter wrapped around the 6-ply maple bearing edges. This blue-on-blue combo works great with the chrome hardware, and upgraded Gauger Alloy RIMS mounts. Sizes are 12″x8″ rack tom, 16″x14″ floor tom, and a 22″x20″ bass. Zebra Glass Glitter & Clear Acrylic Hybrid

This unique Hybrid kit features one of the coolest color combo’s we’ve done on a Phattie Hybrid kit. The Zebra Glass Glitter and the Black-Chrome hardware compliment each other perfectly over the clear acrylic centers. This kit also features an extra deep hoop on the front of the bass, custom wrapped inside and out for a little extra bling. This is a sweet setup we put together for Dave Irish last year, a killer drummer out of Austin. It’s a Phattie Hybrid Series with 8″x7″, 10″x7″, and 13″x8″ suspended toms, a 16″x16″ floor, and a thumping 22″x20″. The maple sections are finished in Blue Glass Glitter with Clear Acrylic Centers, Black Hardware, and a custom bass head with matching logo and “blue-chrome” Holz ring.
