Phattie Hybrid Kit, Black Glass over Starglow Acrylic

Today’s kit is a sharp looking set of Phattie Hybrids. StarGlow acrylic centers combined with our LED lighting provide for an awesome effect against the black glass glitter and black hardware. The sizes on this custom setup include 8″x8″, 10″x8″, and 12″x8″ rack toms, 14″x14″ and 18″x16″ floor toms and a thumping 22″x20″ bass drum. Pearl Optimounts were used on the rack toms, and custom machined to fit Yamaha tom brackets that were powder coated black to match. Other custom touches include a full DMX controller with built-in light board, black Gauger Alloy RIMS cradles, a deep-dish front bass hoop, and Phattie Custom Shop badges placed discreetly so they don’t interfere with the light show. Phatties with a Emerald Satin Burst, Brushed Hardware

This striking set of Phattie’s features a deep emerald green satin lacquer with an airbrushed burst that carries over onto the custom wood hoops. A brushed satin finish on the hardware is the perfect compliment to the satin lacquer. Sizes include a 12″x9″ rack tom, 14″x14″ and 16″x16″ floor toms, a 22″x20″ bass, and a matching 14″x6″ snare drum. All drums feature claw-style wood hoops that give them a huge, deep, and warm sound. Phattie in White Pearl, with a touch of Black

This smooth Phattie setup features a 12″x8″ rack tom, 15″x13″ and 16″x14″ floor toms, a thumping 22″x20″ bass, and matching 14″x5.5″ snare. The finish is White Pearl with two thin Black Pearl stripes inlaid nice and flush, and right under the resonant-side lugs. Custom touches include the Dunnett R4 strainer, old school Ludwig mufflers in the toms and snare, black lacquer bass hoops with old school inlays, and the Phattie Racing-Stripe bass logo in black sparkle. Phattie Hybrids with Quick Action Drum Lugs

This fresh set of Phattie Hybrids features the new Quick Action Drum Lug all around, with custom RIMS mounting and bass hoop lugs. The Quick Action Drum Lugs are a quick-release style lug that works different than other quick release lugs on the market. Once all the tension rods on a head have been loosened, you just turn the hoop to the side and they all slide right out of the lug. This system is also designed to not interfere with the RIMS mounts. Heads can be removed and swapped while the drum stays on the stand, no problem! The lug inserts stay on the tension rod when the hoops are removed, preventing the tension rods from sliding off the hoops, getting lost, etc. This function is the same on the bass drum hoops, when the hoop comes off the tension rods can’t slip out of the hoop lugs, they stay attached, making head swaps a piece of cake. The deep and sparkly True Black Glass Glitter is quickly becoming the color to have this year. Black Label kits look beautiful in this color when combined with the traditional Radio King style hardware, this kit being no exception. Sharp looking Purple Hybrid Phatties….

A little High Gloss Maple to start your week…

Last week I refinished an older Phattie kit into a high gloss natural maple finish using 100% water-based finishing products. Water based products have come a long way in the last several years, and the current stuff used on all Stauffer Percussion products provides the same level of performance you get from traditional solvent-based finishes, but without the harmful fumes and toxic clean-up. Spray guns and other equipment can be cleaned out using tap water, no need for lacquer thinner or acetone in the shop. This kit featured a 10″ rack tom, 14″ floor, 22″ bass, and 13″ snare. Here’s a couple detail shots of the finish quality, I’m quite pleased with how the new water based system is working out:

Aged Marine Pearl Phatties…

This Pre-Aged Marine Pearl kit features a 10″x8″ rack tom, 14″x12″ floor tom, and a 22″x20″ bass drum. Friday Flashback, a funky Orange Satin Lacquer set of Phatties…

This Friday Flashback dates from early 2003…geeze time flies! This kit included 8″, 10″, 12″, 14″, and 16″ hanging toms and a 22″ bass, all finished in a bright orange satin lacquer with black hardware. This was also one of the first kits that rocked our new Phattie logo in the bubble-badge that we used until switching to the chrome-plated badges. The matching orange Phattie logo on the bass was a nice touch, check it out:

Friday Flashback! First kit for the Eli Young Band…

This week we had the opportunity to supply some cool prototypes to Chris Thompson of the Eli Young Band. He’s got some cool new snares to try out on the road…but more on those next week! Today’s Friday Flashback is the first kit we built for the Eli Young Band sometime in early 2006. This kit featured a 12″ rack tom, 14″ and 16″ hanging floor toms, and a deep 22″ bass. The finish is a red glass glitter with silver sparkle stars, and custom silver metallic/sparkle powder coating that shimmered under the lights.
