Black Label 30′s style Trap Kit

With the recent Top Hat & Cane kit, we took it back to the 40′s with the finish and the 50′s with the hardware. Today we step back another decade to the late 20′s and mid 30′s with a true Trap Kit style build. Built with the goal of capturing the sound and style of the era with modern touches that make it tour-ready. The sizes include a 14″x5″ main snare, 14″x12″ field drum/snare, 16″x14″ floor tom/cocktail drum, 22″x10″ bass, and an 11″ traditional Chinese tom. The long list of custom touches includes pre-aged and inlaid wood hoops, an original 1920′s/1930′s Ludwig wood block, a clip-on tom mount, reproduction 3-point style strainers, low-boy hihat stand and much more. A Phattie kit with an abundance of Puzzle

Here’s another great example of our exclusive Puzzle Glass Glitter, this time combined with themed wooden badges and powder coated hardware that really compliments the overall vibe. Drum sizes include fast rack toms in 8″x6″, 10″x6.5″, and 12″x7″ with Alloy RIMS mounts; 14″x12″ and 16″x14″ floor toms with Alloy RIMS cradles; a thumping 24″x20″ bass and a 14″x8″ 30-Ply snare drum. The hardware is powder coated solid high-gloss blue and the badges are laser engraved and profile-cut to match the kit. Phattie in True Black Glass with Turquoise Inlays

The center piece of todays kit is a massive 24″x24″ bass drum that sounds every bit as huge as it looks! Second to the sound, the best part about having so much real estate is how good the finish turned out and the contrast between the colors. Wrapped in True Black Glass Glitter with Turquoise Glass Glitter inlays and set against black-chrome hardware; the sizes are 12″x8″, 16″x14″, 24″x24″, and a matching 13″x6″ snare. Custom touches that really add to the overall look included the Phattie Racing Stripe bass logo in black glitter, the contrasting wrap on the inside of the bass hoop, and offset lugs. Check it out:

New house kit for Sound Temple Studios

Robert George recently opened up a beautiful new studio here in Asheville. Sound Temple was designed as a “sacred recording space” that is also a world class recording studio designed by renowned studio designer Wes LaChot. The new Phattie house-kit for the studio features 10″x8″ and 12″x9″ rack toms, 14″x12″ and 16″x14″ floor toms, 22″x16″ and 18″x14″ bass drums, and a 14″x7″ snare. The drums are all maple and feature an ebony & cherry inlay around each shell that compliments the black-chrome hardware. Phattie in White Pearl, with a touch of Black

This smooth Phattie setup features a 12″x8″ rack tom, 15″x13″ and 16″x14″ floor toms, a thumping 22″x20″ bass, and matching 14″x5.5″ snare. The finish is White Pearl with two thin Black Pearl stripes inlaid nice and flush, and right under the resonant-side lugs. Custom touches include the Dunnett R4 strainer, old school Ludwig mufflers in the toms and snare, black lacquer bass hoops with old school inlays, and the Phattie Racing-Stripe bass logo in black sparkle. Here’s something worth making a weekend post about: A 7-piece Clear Acrylic Phattie kit with full DMX controls. This kit features 10″x8″ and 12″x8″ rack toms, 14″x14″, 15″x14″ and 16″x14″ floor toms, a 20″x18″ bass and a 13″x7″ snare (not pictured). Built using RCI clear acrylic shells and brushed-satin hardware, this kit delivers in both sounds and looks. The ultra low-profile LED install was designed, wired, and installed in-house for maximum brightness while keeping an almost invisible presence when not in-use. Once the kit is setup with stands and cymbals, you’ve got no idea what’s coming until it powers up! Phattie Hybrids with Quick Action Drum Lugs

This fresh set of Phattie Hybrids features the new Quick Action Drum Lug all around, with custom RIMS mounting and bass hoop lugs. The Quick Action Drum Lugs are a quick-release style lug that works different than other quick release lugs on the market. Once all the tension rods on a head have been loosened, you just turn the hoop to the side and they all slide right out of the lug. This system is also designed to not interfere with the RIMS mounts. Heads can be removed and swapped while the drum stays on the stand, no problem! The lug inserts stay on the tension rod when the hoops are removed, preventing the tension rods from sliding off the hoops, getting lost, etc. This function is the same on the bass drum hoops, when the hoop comes off the tension rods can’t slip out of the hoop lugs, they stay attached, making head swaps a piece of cake. Today’s Friday Flashback is from early 2003, best I can recall. Phattie kit in Blue Glass Glitter with Adonis lugs, and white powder coating all around. The sizes were (or were close to) 10″x7″, 12″x8″, 14″x12″, 16″x14″ and a thumping 20″x20″ bass. The blue & white combo is sharp looking, and you could never go wrong with Adonis lugs, check it out:

Phattie Hybrid with an LED twist

It’s early Monday morning, and if you’re a drum fanatic that needs a cup of coffee to get moving, the video below just might work for you!

This kit is a Phattie Hybrid Series that features 10″x8″ and 12″x9″ rack toms, 14″x12″ and 16″x14″ floor toms, a thumping 22″x20″ bass, and a matching 14″x8″ snare. The finish is Broken Glass Glitter with lightly frosted clear acrylic inserts and classic tear-drop style lugs holding it all together. The lighting system was created in-house, and features multiple channels of control allowing different drums to be different colors, and greatly expands the light-show possibilities and programming options of the kit. New house kit for Echo Mountain Studios

This beauty is the new house kit at Echo Mountain Studios here in Asheville, NC. The sizes are 10″x8″, 12″x9″, 14″x12″, 16″x14″, and 24″x16″. The finish is a water based lacquer over a custom deep red mahogany stain with flecked maple inlays, and the contrast is beautiful. Inlayed wooden hoops combine with the Phattie bearing edge for a pre-eq’ed sound, a perfect blend of punch, sustain, and minor overtones for recording. Custom Echo/Phattie laser engraved badges round out the look, for a smooth modern appearance with a vintage vibe.
