This week we had the opportunity to supply some cool prototypes to Chris Thompson of the Eli Young Band. He’s got some cool new snares to try out on the road…but more on those next week! Today’s Friday Flashback is the first kit we built for the Eli Young Band sometime in early 2006. This kit featured a 12″ rack tom, 14″ and 16″ hanging floor toms, and a deep 22″ bass. The finish is a red glass glitter with silver sparkle stars, and custom silver metallic/sparkle powder coating that shimmered under the lights. Contrasting nicely with the Black Chrome hardware, this smooth black to deep grey burst with slight purple overtones looks great! This setup includes hanging rack toms in 8″x7″, 10″x8″, 12″x9″, and 14″x12″ sizes with a 20″x20″ bass. Bronze Acrylic is perhaps one of the perfect colors for Acrylic kits, up there with our popular Coke Bottle Green. Lighter than the Smoke acrylic, it lets more light through for a great stage presence, but dark enough that its not totally transparent. This kit features a 12″x9″ rack tom, 14″x12″ and 16″x14″ floor toms, and a thumping 24″x18″ bass drum. Finished with chrome hardware and chrome-wrapped maple hoops, it’s one smooth looking setup:

This sweet Phattie kit features a 12″x10″ rack, 14″x12″ floor, and 20″x16″ bass, all finished in a custom painted Chocolate Brown Flat-Lacquer. This custom mix gives the drums a smooth look, and contrasts well with the chrome hardware. Check it out:

This classy setup features a 12″x8″ rack tom, 14″x12″ floor tom, and 22″x20″ bass. The drums feature maple bearing edges top and bottom, with 1/4″ acrylic through the centers. Perfect blend of warmth from the maple and punch from the acrylic centers, for a set that captures the best of both worlds.
