Phattie Custom Shop Kit with White Pearl Inlays

Another beautiful execution of our Perfect Brown satin lacquer, a beautiful shade of walnut that looks perfect on any drum. This kit features a 13″x9″ rack tom, 16″x16″ floor tom and a 24″x16″ bass drum. Custom touches include laser engraved maple Phattie badges, white pearl inlays centered below the resonant lugs, and our Victorian shield logo on a Fiberskyn head. In the words of the new owner:

“The drums got here just like you said and they are great! I took everything out and hit each piece seperately and everything sounded amazing. The toms were so big and punchy and didn’t need any muffling at all which is really hard to come by. The bass was HUGE and sounded like it was mic’ed and EQ’ed perfectly. The perfect brown finish, the white pearl inlays, and the wood badges go perfect together. Definitely some of the best work, I couldn’t ask for a better kit. Can’t wait to use this at my next show! Chris Thompson gets a new set of Phatties for the road…

With the release of their new album Life At Best only a few weeks away, Chris of the Eli Young Band recently commissioned this sweet new touring rig. Features include a 13″x9″ rack tom, 16″x16″ floor tom and 24″x14″ bass drum. The finish is a custom mixed baby blue satin lacquer with our “perfect brown” satin lacquer wood hoops. The hardware features a brushed-satin finish and the wooden badges feature the band logo and text engraved, a distressed “worn leather” style stain, and hand painted logo. An air-brushed Fiberskyn head and vintage style T-rods and claws bring a touch of vintage to the bass drum, and the rope is the final touch that has become a sharp theme on Chris’ killer kits. Phattie Modern Mahogany w/True Gold Inlays

Today’s kit is a great blend of custom drums and classy touches. The finish is a deep Modern Mahogany satin lacquer with classy True Gold glass glitter inlays spaced perfectly under the resonant side lugs. The sizes include a 13″x9″ rack tom, 16″x16″ floor tom, 24″x16″ bass drum, and matching 14″x7″ snare. The photos really do the talking on this one, check it out:

Avett Brothers ring in the new year on their new Black Labels

Happy New Year! Lets kick it off with some exciting news: The Avett Brothers took delivery of their new kit just in time for the sold-out New Years Eve show in Asheville, and are now rockin’ an awesome set of Black Label drums. A heavy vintage vibe was desired from this setup, both to compliment the sound and the aesthetics of their style. The result is a Black Label kit featuring 13″x9″ and 16″x16″ wood-hooped toms, a 22″x14″ bass, and a 14″x6.5″ snare. Finish is a custom mixed blend of reds and browns to create a very old-school mahogany, and the hoops have a deep amber and tobacco mix on them to give that aged vibe. Lugs are Radio King reproductions with a brushed satin nickel style finish, and coated heads were used top and bottom to get that really warm old-school sound. Even the Silver Glass Glitter inlay on the bass hoops was pre-aged and features no gloss, a perfect match to the hardware and hoops.

This rockin’ set of Phatties featured a unique finish that is subtle but still head turning. The brown satin lacquer has two stripes of True Gold glass glitter inlaid directly under the tube lugs, the contrast looks great against the black chrome hardware all around. The shells and specs are standard Phattie Classic series, featuring a 13″x9″ rack tom with optimount, 16″x16″ floor tom, and 24″x18″ bass. A Fiberskyn head on the bass really pulls the look together on this one, check it out:

This kit is on the way to our friend Jay who runs Blueberry Hill Bass. Blueberry Hill specializes in finding the most talented, skilled, and experienced luthiers and connecting them with bass players looking for a unique world-class instrument. I like to think that Jay’s exceptional taste in bass guitars also applies to drums, and look forward to the feedback on this beauty. This kit features a 13″x9″ rack tom, 16″x16″ floor, and 22″x16″ bass. Custom features include regular key-rods on the bass (vintage t-handles are standard on Black Labels), 2.3mm hoops for a fatter sound, and a Fiberskyn resonant head with 6″ Holz and custom Black Label logo. This beautiful Black Label kit features great classic rock’n'roll sizes with a 13″x9″ rack tom, 16″x16″ floor tom, 24″x14″ bass, and a deep 14″x7″ snare. The finish is True Black glass glitter and custom touches include a shell mounted cymbal holder and rail mount on the bass, double row of lugs on the snare, and a Ludwig P40662 internal tone control on the snare. Here’s what Tim had to say when they arrived:

“Well, the kit showed up yesterday safe and sound. It’s hard for me to tell you how happy I am with them. Not only are they absolutely beautiful, they sound amazing! Right out of the case. The bass sounds great with nothing in it. I’ve got the very same head combo on my 24” Slingerland, and I had to put one of those Evans EQ pillows in it to get the sound I wanted. I bought one for the new drum, but I don’t think I’ll need it. Everything about them from the shells, to the hardware looks to be very high quality, and the cases are fantastic as well. Quality is something I know. I’ve work as a machinist, and now as a inspector for a aerospace manufacture here in Dayton for quite a while. It has been such a long time since I bought something, and was really happy with what I got. My hat is off to you, and your crew for the outstanding care, and talent that you put into your product. I hope you saved a few nice pics of them to put on your daily blog.
