Today’s kit combines a beautiful birds eye maple veneer, deep golden amber stain, and a 1/2″ Paua Abalone inlay all buried under a high gloss lacquer. The sizes include 10″x7″ and 12″x7″ rack toms, a 14″x12″ floor tom, and 20″X14″ bass drum. Custom touches include DW brackets, a double tom holder mounted on the bass drum, and die cast hoops. This is a sweet setup we put together for Dave Irish last year, a killer drummer out of Austin. It’s a Phattie Hybrid Series with 8″x7″, 10″x7″, and 13″x8″ suspended toms, a 16″x16″ floor, and a thumping 22″x20″. The maple sections are finished in Blue Glass Glitter with Clear Acrylic Centers, Black Hardware, and a custom bass head with matching logo and “blue-chrome” Holz ring.
This unique build features 8″x7″, 10″x7″, 12″x7″, 14″x12″, and 16″x14″ hanging rack toms, and a thumping 22″x18″ bass. The stain is a deep mahogany semi-gloss finish, hand rubbed over our 6-Ply Keller VSS tom shells, and 8-Ply Keller VSS bass shell. The hardware is standard tube lugs and 2.3mm hoops, but finished in a custom Silver Vein powder coating that really offsets the finish. No detail was overlooked on this build, even the air vents, suspension mounts, and spurs were powder coated to match, check it out:
All our paint work is done in-house, and this flawless kit is a great example of what’s possible in the custom shop. The rack tom sizes are 10″x7″, 12″x7.5″, and 13″x8″, with 16″x15″ and 18″x16″ floor toms. The bass is a 24″x20″ cannon, and a custom painted 14″x7″ Sounds Like Art Dragon Snare rounds out the kit. The shells are all Keller VSS Maple, 6-ply toms & an 8-ply bass. The paint work features a transparent red kandy on the stripes and logos that lets the grain show through, with an ultra high gloss clear coat on top. The result is a kit that is just as rock’n'roll as it is classy, and qualifies for our Best of the Best gallery category.
Here’s a custom job we just wrapped up for Zane with As Sick As Us, a local group that is making some waves. You can check them out tonight at the Boiler Room with Straight Line Stitch. Specs are 10×7 and 12×8 rack toms, 14×12 floor on a suspension cradle, 20×20 kick, and a massive 14×7 snare with 42-strand wires. The wood sections were stained inside and out, while leaving the bearing edges and joint overlaps natural maple. The contrast turned out great, check it out:
