The Smoking Man is portrayed by Canadian actor William B. Davis. When Davis first received the role, the character was written as an extra for the pilot episode. He returned for small cameo appearances during the first season, making increasingly more appearances in the seasons that followed. Davis never received an award for his portrayal alone, but he was nominated for ensemble awards.
The birth date, birthplace, and most of the history of the Smoking Man is never categorically confirmed. One possible version of his past is provided during the fourth-season episode “Musings of a Cigarette Smoking Man”, in which the conspiracy theorists known as The Lone Gunmen claim Smoking Man was first documented in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on August 20, 1940. His father was an ardent communist activist and a spy for the Soviet NKVD who was executed under the Espionage Act of 1917 “before his boy could walk.” His mother was a cigarette smoker who died from lung cancer, also when he was an infant. Since he had no surviving family, he became a ward of the state and was sent to various orphanages in the Midwest. He made no friends and spent most of his time reading.
Prepare yourself for a long relationship. If you’re hoping to attract a Cancer man for a one-night stand, you should probably set your sights elsewhere. His aversion to wild, quick-paced actions and his dedication to family make the Cancer guy a poor candidate for a fling. If you want to attract him in the hopes of starting a long-term relationship, though, you’ll probably have much greater success.
He is tender, sweet and doesn’t talk too much. Although his sensitivity can stay hidden for most of the time, he will show it when it matters and this guaranties relationships that last, if he doesn’t underestimate himself and choose wrong partners. He is genuinely interested in his partner’s life, rarely says things just to get someone to bed, and is usually a safe choice to start a peaceful family with. On the other hand, he can be needy and insecure, and some more energized signs could see him as weak and boring.
This is often a match made in Heaven! Although the Scorpio woman and Cancer man have very different personalities, they complement each other well. The jealous nature of the Scorpion would be soothed by the Crab’s total devotion, and both would seek to establish a harmonious family and home.
Great read. I’m a cancer man and I do agree with the article. although as I begin to age, I believe that I have either learned to control my mood swings or they have weakened. But I have had some relationships which left me no choice but to grow. I’m also very aware of my connection to the moon. When I feel the ‘low tide’ I know it’s only temporary and keep myself busy with tasks until it passes. Out of the suggested matches I’ve been with a Pisces, was deep spiritual connection but too irrational. A Scorpio, deep sexual connection but lacking in friendship. A Taurus, good friendship but not mature enough. And a Capricorn, probably the best match. Very complimentary in yin yang sense. If woman are trying to impress a cancer man. Be direct! We love being the object of a woman’s desire and want to know it. But be classy about it. If you are trying to keep a cancer man NEVER lie. Don’t flirt in front of us and don’t keep secrets. We notice everything
You are a very lucky girl if you get yourself a cancer man.Cancer and Leo are the highest in compatibility stakes but astrologer don’t want to get that cat outer the bag because they are water and fire therefore might confuse their followers.I vote a Leo woman to be more compatible with Cancer man than Taurus woman.
Ruled by the moon, Cancer men may be uncommonly in touch with their emotions, able to take on roles that many of their male counterparts would be utterly lost in, like romance and parenting. You will find that chivalry is not dead with this sentimental and poetic knight in shining armor – if you can get him to take the armor off.
To get a complete picture of someone through astrology we need to take all those other planets and their interactions into account. To do this we need to create and interpret their unique natal chart. For information on what’s involved in this and the opportunity to obtain one for yourself and your partner please see the compatibility readings page.
When he smiles, it melts my heart. When I hear his laughter I am happy. I love our friendship and the time we spend together. I am falling for him and yes I am a Leo woman. He is considerate and thoughtful, funny, and charming. He is a home body but we have this bubble that is impenetrable. The simplest things are what he enjoys. He has a passion inside him that takes over me when we are intimate so I hope it’s true when they say love and sex are one in the same for these men because I love him. Are there any Cancer men out there that can give me insight on this: a friend of his told me, without prompting from me, that he said he loves me but he hasn’t told me how he feels at all. Do I just wait for him to tell me or should I open up about my feelings to him?
Cancer men are a pleasure to shop for because they genuinely love receiving gifts and romantic displays of affection – especially if you give them something that has special meaning for you. They adore old things and unusual treasures, especially if they know for certain that no one else has what they have. Ruled by the moon, Cancer men are generally more in touch with their feminine nature and inner anima than most guys – so you can have fun finding them cute clothes and accessories with which to adorn themselves. They usually enjoy receiving jewelry, especially handcrafted silver rings, cuffs, and pendants. These men will often wear scents that seem more flowery or sweet than most guys feel comfortable sporting – so lavender, verbena and all gourmand scents like chocolate or spice will usually go over well here.
It is not known how many people are Cancer sun signs however, scientific evidence suggests the number is low. This makes sense when one considers that most births happen in late summer, meaning August and September (Melina, 2010).
As an aside, Cancers (men and women) do particularly well when working from home so they can be close to family. However, if the male is single and lives alone, he should be working outside of the home.
A male Cancer’s intuition is highly developed, but that can sometimes be limited to people residing within his own den. This sign is all about their own tribe, and sometimes need to be lured out of their shell and their comfort zone in order to really grow. A Cancer man can be consumed with longing and nostalgia for things of the past – which, if channeled creatively, can inspire him to explore history and the world of myth. If not, you may encounter a barnacle-encrusted relic of former glory days who fears progress and change. Beware when you hear a Cancer constantly bemoaning the loss of “how it used to be.”
Cigarette Smoking Man (abbreviated CSM or C-Man; sometimes referred to as Cancer Man or the Smoking Man) is a fictional character and one of the primary antagonists of the Fox science fiction-supernatural television series The X-Files. He serves as the arch-nemesis of FBI Special Agent Fox Mulder. In the show’s sixth season, his name is said to be C.G.B. Spender, but Dana Scully suggests this is one of “hundreds of aliases”; the show’s characters and fans continue to refer to him by variations of “the Smoking Man” because he is almost always seen chain-smoking Morley cigarettes. In the eleventh season, he reveals his full name to be Carl Gerhard Busch.
I like what I’m reading about this cancer topics I’m one my self I been to hell an back with this relationship I been in for 20 years and I don’t trust her at all she’s a libra we have kids together but she cross me to many times I’m just waiting for the right time to move on an it want be a libra that’s for sure.
Fans of the series were active in debating if the Smoking Man was actually dead after the events of the season five premiere “Redux”. In his first response, Chris Carter said he had left clues in the episode, and he later officially announced that the character would appear in The X-Files movie. In one of his last comments on the matter, he said, “Not that we haven’t brought deceased characters back before, in flashbacks or more paranormal ways. The great thing about The X-Files is that anything can happen.”
So unless you want to message me with more details about your astrological profiles, I’d suggest following your instincts. You’re a Scorpio, which means whether you know it or not, you’re quite psychic and intuitive. You likely already know whether or not he’s serious enough to meet your needs. If you sense that he is, then hang on for the ride. If you sense that he isn’t, or that he’d be too high maintenance for you, then drive off into the sunset and don’t look back.
I am a sag girl (35yo) my man is the cancer(49yo). We been living together a yr now. I alrrasy met his children n family. But lately I have been doubting his love for me since i recently found out he been texting an old female friend of his who i believe he has feelings for. Should i leave him so he can try to be with her ? I have a strong feeling that he has feelings for her. And our relationship has ups n downs. Deeply sensitive and easily wounded, your Cancer may not give you another chance to do him wrong once you’ve hurt him. Cancer men have long memories, and never forget once they’ve experienced a slight. Tread lightly and be kind to this Crab, and you will be rewarded with undying loyalty.
Emphasize your love of family. You should talk about the love you have for your current family as well as any dreams you have about marrying and starting a family of your own. Cancer men generally dream of having children someday, so it’ll help your case dramatically if your dreams are in line with his.
You’ll need to be assertive, but indirectly so. Persistence is important here. Show him that you’re genuinely interested in him by continually making the effort to approach him. A Cancer guy can be a little insecure at times, but once you calm those insecurities and demonstrate that your interest is real and lasting, he can feel comfortable enough to develop his own attraction and affection for you in return.
Take the example of our Virgo friend Nancy, a wealthy executive and world traveler. On her third date, she invited her Cancer beau Edward to her tasteful, art-filled New York City apartment. Rather than marvel at her rare book collection and African pottery, Edward noticed two things: that Nancy’s living room air conditioner didn’t work, and she didn’t have an anti-slip pad under her tiny kitchen rug.
Usually excellent cooks, Cancer men prefer eating at home to going out, delighting in simple repast and filling comfort foods like soups and stews. Cancers are drawn to relics of yesteryear, and often have a longing for the traditions and tastes of days gone by – so you may see his home crammed with antiques and family heirlooms. He will hold onto passed-down possessions for their sentimental value, even if they are no longer beautiful to behold.
Translation: Cancer men can tell who is being authentic and who is being fake. If you are transparent about who you are, they’ll trust you. Try to be hide something from them and they’ll know right away. Water signs all have this capability.
He is soft, loving, considerate, and nurturing to those he cares deeply for – but always remember that those born under the sign of the Crab have a hard shell to protect their vulnerable underbelly, and pincers to protect themselves when they feel attacked.

I’m a Libra and I think I just lost my cancer man due to being so insecure and stupid I really love him and I didn’t believe you was in love with me but he is and I’m going crazy cuz he won’t talk to me
For the next 14 years, he is presumed dead. However, he appears again alive but seriously burned and disfigured at the end of “My Struggle” (2016), the first episode of The X-Files miniseries, stating that the X-Files have been reopened. In the season finale, “My Struggle II”, the Smoking Man puts into motion the conspiracy he had been working on all these years, releasing chemtrails into the atmosphere which trigger immune system breakdowns throughout the American population, which had been infected by the Spartan virus through mandatory flu vaccinations. Out of fondness for Mulder, he offers him the cure to the disease, but is rebuffed. The United States is thrown into chaos as the Syndicate plan for depopulation gets underway. However in “My Struggle III”, this is shown to be a vision experienced by Scully. It is revealed that the Smoking Man is trying to find Scully’s son William in order to fulfill his plans, and that he is in conflict with a group lead by two other surviving Syndicate members, who want the Smoking Man dead in order to carry out their own agenda. The Smoking Man approaches Walter Skinner to make him a deal, and offers him a chance to survive the end of humanity in exchange for Skinner helping him find William. The Smoking Man also reveals he was responsible for the creation of William, as he impregnated Scully with the use of alien technology.
This situation gets rapidly compounded, because Cancer doesn’t like confrontation, and prefers to withdraw to heal when hurt, leading to feeling resentful and taken for granted, and eventually becoming argumentative and feeling like a martyr. 1. Because you didn’t happen to share just how old he actually is, we can only guess from what you’ve said, which leaves me thinking he’s probably somewhere in his mid 20’s. If this is the case, he’s likely still got a ‘soft shell’ so to speak. If he’s already had a few relationships under his belt that didn’t lead to his happily ever after too early in life, then he’s likely had some heart breaks and hasn’t yet taken the time to develop the courage to trust new commitments, that often comes for cancer men, after decades of introspection and cautious coupling.
The good, bad, and ugly on the Scorpio man Are you attracted to a Scorpio man? Trying to understand how Scorpio men operate in love and relationships? Hoping to gain better insight into this water […]
The Cancer man likes femininity, so wear a flirty dress and perfume on your dates. Also, cook for him. One of the ways to a Canceian’s heart is definitely through his stomach! Let him notice your homemaking skills, and above all, never try to make him jealous. This will cause him to retreat into his shell, and once that happens, you’ll find it all but impossible to lure him out again.
This union is difficult but not impossible. A Virgo woman is much too practical to ever understand Cancer’s emotional approach to everything. The constant criticism from the Virgin will hurt the Crab’s tender feelings. On the positive side, both signs love their “creature comforts” and have a strong work ethic.
Moody – If you couldn’t tell already, your Cancer man is a very moody being. His emotions can change quicker than a flash of lightening and back again before the thunder claps. One minute he’s hiding in his shell, the next he’s holding you close, and before you know it, he’s got that pincer hooked into your soft spot, then he’s back to crying in his shell again.
This guy is all heart. He’s like a big, sloppy, pulsing heart encased in a hard, protective shell. Although you might not be able to tell just by looking at him (he has an excellent poker face), he needs that tough exterior for protection. He leads with his heart, not his mind, and is therefore extremely affectionate, sensitive, thoughtful, intuitive, caring, and easily hurt. He is an expert in emotions—both his and yours— and makes an excellent life partner.
Although he utters only four audible words in the entire first season of the show, the Smoking Man eventually develops into the series’ primary antagonist. In his early appearances he is seen in the offices of Section Chief Scott Blevins and Assistant Director Walter Skinner, Mulder and his partner Dana Scully’s supervisors. An influential man working for the powers that be, he is a key member in a government-conspiracy unit known only as the Syndicate, who are hiding the truth of alien existence and their plan to colonize Earth. His power and influence remained strong, even after most of the Syndicate was destroyed.
If he did not have a good relationship with his family growing up, chances are, it was not by his choice. A Cancer man who did not receive the love of family from his actual family will probably view his circle of friends as his family, instead. In this case, your best bet is to get on good terms with his friends. Focus on his female friends, though, since getting too cozy with his male buddies might cause him to distrust your affection for him.
If you’re interested in meeting a Cancer guy, frequent places that attract him. Because of Cancer’s creativity and appreciation for beauty, they often attend art exhibits, galleries, and museums. Arts and crafts supply stores are another good bet. You might also find one at a home improvement store, since they love the idea of making a comfortable and attractive home.
Sounds like the perfect man? Before you drag out your Crab pot, you should hear the rest of the story. Cancer men are emotional. They’re ruled by the moon, and as the moon goes through frequent changes, so do the Cancerian’s emotions. He demands complete and utter love and devotion, and he won’t like sharing too much of your attention. You might find Cancer to be jealous and controlling. He’s a hard worker, and he’ll expect the same from you. He’s also a homebody, so if you’re a party girl, you’re wasting your time on a Cancerian. Some signs find Cancer too needy, clingy, brooding, and boring.
Astrology makes an interesting study Red. It really cannot be used alone, and we all have several dozen signs in different areas that make up our “personalities” and predict how we might act or behave naturally, which is why I wrote about that in the beginning.
Make the first move. Cancers tend to be shy, so gather up your courage and approach him first. The key is to present yourself in a non-aggressive way. Introduce yourself and cement your existence in his mind, but never push or pry your way inside his personal bubble, especially if he seems uncomfortable.
Stay within sight. Oftentimes, real attraction is not instantaneous with a Cancer man. You will need to enter within his field of vision on a fairly regular basis before he comes to appreciate your presence there.
Cancer is a naturally nurturing sign. If they care, then they tend to show it fairly obviously and readily. Hugs, questions about your day, troubles, worries, picking up on your moods etc are a good indicator. On the other side of things, withdrawing if offended or hurt is an equally good indicator. If they care about someone they become very easily offended by that person.
