Danny Farrant breaking in some new drums before tour…

Today’s clip features Danny Farrant breaking in a new set of Black Label drums before the Buzzcocks 2010 North American tour. Recorded with a ZoomQ3 with no post-processing on the sound, straight off the camera for a taste of this style of punk-rock setup and tuning. The sizes are 12″x9″, 16″x16″, 22″x14″, and 14″x5″, all with standard Black Label 8-Ply maple shells and edges, and 2.3mm hoops. Danny went on to play these from coast to coast for the last two months without complaint. Easy to mic, easy to travel with, and take a total Buzzcocks beating every night without fail. and a listen to the sound of his Phattie Drums. Recorded on a Zoom Q3 with no post-processing, so the audio is true to the drums. Crank it up on a good set of headphones or speakers to enjoy the sweet bass tone. The toms in this clip are 12″x8″, 14″x12″, and 16″x14″, all with Evans G-Plus heads tuned nice and high. The bass is a 24″x20″ with no ports for that deep full sound, and the snare is a 14″x6″ 20-ply vented, all from the Phattie Classic Series. Check it out:

Dragon Snare finishing process, a time lapse view

Here’s something cool we cooked up this week while finishing up a run of Dragon Snares. This is a 14″x7″ Sounds Like Art snare with a custom mixed red mahogany base, natural maple flames, and a Scorched top coat. After the scorched top coat is applied, it is carefully rubbed by hand to get just the right effect. Check it out:

We hope everyone out there is having a great Holiday season so far. This long weekend while most of us are enjoying a little time off work, here’s some new videos and photos for you to check out. This week we dug through some archives and added almost 200 old photos to our Facebook account. Drums from the early years, you can check them out here.
