Artist Video highlights of 2011

2011 has been a great year filled with many awesome experiences! We’ve been able to work with a ton of great drummers with great ideas, and turn those ideas into amazing kits. The best part is watching these guys exercise their talent on a set of drums we built, and see the enjoyment they get out of a finely crafted instrument. Here are a couple of video highlights from the year, from two of my favorite artists:

The Eli Young Band has had an amazing year, with Chris Thompson driving the beat from his Phatties. Their hit Crazy Girl made it to #1! Here’s the official video, featuring a beautiful set of Phattie Drums in pre-aged pearl with inlaid wood hoops:

Later in the year the Eli Young Band had the opportunity to play Letterman. At this point Chris was playing his new baby-blue Phatties, and Letterman gives the drums a little shout-out at the end of the performance, check it out:

This year almost marked a banner year for the Avett Brothers. Here’s a clip of them playing the Grammys in a very cool performance that included Mumford & Sons and Bob Dylan. Drummer Jacob Edwards was using his Black Label 14″x6.5″ snare:

Most recently the Avett Brothers played Laundry Room on the CMT Artist of the Year Awards. Jacob rocked his full Black Label outfit with the vintage style mahogany finish and pre-aged wood hoops. Check it out:

Chris Thompson gets a new set of Phatties for the road…

With the release of their new album Life At Best only a few weeks away, Chris of the Eli Young Band recently commissioned this sweet new touring rig. Features include a 13″x9″ rack tom, 16″x16″ floor tom and 24″x14″ bass drum. The finish is a custom mixed baby blue satin lacquer with our “perfect brown” satin lacquer wood hoops. The hardware features a brushed-satin finish and the wooden badges feature the band logo and text engraved, a distressed “worn leather” style stain, and hand painted logo. An air-brushed Fiberskyn head and vintage style T-rods and claws bring a touch of vintage to the bass drum, and the rope is the final touch that has become a sharp theme on Chris’ killer kits. Check out the latest single from the Eli Young Band, with Chris Thompson holding it down on a sweet set of Phatties. The single will be available March 8th, with the EP to follow. The kit features a 12″x8″, 14″x14″, and 20″x14 in Pre-Aged White Pearl with inlaid wood hoops and Phattie Black-Brass 14″x6.5″ snare. Turned out to be the perfect color combo for the video, check it out:

Avett Brothers ring in the new year on their new Black Labels

Happy New Year! Lets kick it off with some exciting news: The Avett Brothers took delivery of their new kit just in time for the sold-out New Years Eve show in Asheville, and are now rockin’ an awesome set of Black Label drums. A heavy vintage vibe was desired from this setup, both to compliment the sound and the aesthetics of their style. The result is a Black Label kit featuring 13″x9″ and 16″x16″ wood-hooped toms, a 22″x14″ bass, and a 14″x6.5″ snare. Finish is a custom mixed blend of reds and browns to create a very old-school mahogany, and the hoops have a deep amber and tobacco mix on them to give that aged vibe. Lugs are Radio King reproductions with a brushed satin nickel style finish, and coated heads were used top and bottom to get that really warm old-school sound. Even the Silver Glass Glitter inlay on the bass hoops was pre-aged and features no gloss, a perfect match to the hardware and hoops.

There couldn’t be a better way to kick off the New Year, so say hello to the Avett Brothers, Jacob Edwards on drums, on their new Black Label setup:

Love and Special Sauce just finished recording their new album at Echo Mountain, with the Avett Brothers producing it. Check out this trailer for a look at the new G. The Movement – Coming to a city near you…

Blending the styles of Rock, Reggae and Hip-Hop with their smooth musical skills, The Movement is touring hard this summer. Drummer Gary Jackson keeps the tight beat on a set of Black Label drums, finished in a tri-colored Rasta Glass Glitter.
