Phattie Badge gets a little change up…

by Dennis
May 31st, 2010

The Phattie badge recently got a new background of smooth black enamel instead of the brushed stainless.  The result is a badge that pops a little more and pays homage to the classic black & silver badges on the vintage drums we love and are inspired by.  Check it out:

Friday Flashback! First kit for the Eli Young Band…

by Dennis
May 28th, 2010

This week we had the opportunity to supply some cool prototypes to Chris Thompson of the Eli Young Band.  He’s got some cool new snares to try out on the road…but more on those next week!  Today’s Friday Flashback is the first kit we built for the Eli Young Band sometime in early 2006.  This kit featured a 12″ rack tom, 14″ and 16″ hanging floor toms, and a deep 22″ bass.  The finish is a red glass glitter with silver sparkle stars, and custom silver metallic/sparkle powder coating that shimmered under the lights.  This was the first of many cool kits we’ve built for them so far, check it out:

A new lease on life for a rarely used floor tom…

by Dennis
May 26th, 2010

Ever end up with a kit where one drum just doesn’t fit like you imagined it?  This 18″ Phattie floor tom rarely left it’s case due to the great sounding 16″ floor tom also on the kit.  With the artist playing some lighter gigs and coffee-house style stuff, a new lease on life was given to this 18″ with a conversion to taller bass-drum lugs, a DW Rail Mount, Dunnett gull-wing spurs, Gibraltar Natural-Maple Lacquered hoops, and higher quality mounting brackets.  The result is a hip little 18″ bass with a great tone, and visually a great match for the rest of the kit since there was no color-matching or refinishing involved.  Check it out:

Custom Pearl Colorwrap on a Deluxe Cocktail Kit

by Dennis
May 25th, 2010

This Deluxe model Cocktail Kit features a custom ColorWrap provided by Andy at Drum Supply House.  This particular color is a funky blue/teal over a white pearl base for a beautiful color you won’t find anywhere else, and was a project we put together for the 2010 Chicago Drum Show that happened a few weeks ago.  This Deluxe Cocktail Kit features a 10″x6″ snare, 10″x8″ tom, and 16″x24″ cocktail drum, our standard sizes all in 8-ply maple for the best in portability and sound quality.  The color and chrome contrast perfectly, check it out:

Last Train Out keeping busy…

by Dennis
May 24th, 2010

Playing this weekend at Country Palooza is our friend and great drummer Dave Stover with Last Train Out.  If you haven’t checked them out, follow that last link to listen to some recent recordings on their Myspace page.  Dave currently rocks a Phattie setup in a Black Semi-Gloss hand rubbed stain over thin maple shells, with a 12″x10″ rack, 14″x14″ and 16″x14″ floors, and a thumping 24″x18″ bass.  He recently added a 14″x7″ Dragon Snare to the mix for a serious snare sound.  For those in the Grand Rapids area, you definitely need to make the trek out to see Last Train Out at Country Palooza this weekend, should be a rockin’ family-friendly time all around!
